Welcome to the Maggie Valley Police Department’s website. This agency is the primary law enforcement agency for the town. None of the towns in the county of Haywood have a detention center. That is located in the Town of Waynesville where the Sheriff’s Office and the county seat are located. Our goals and responsibilities are to protect the lives and property of our citizens and residents, tourists while on vacation here and businesses by disrupting disorder and reducing the opportunity for individuals to commit crimes. With the apprehension of persons suspected of committing crimes, a heavy traffic enforcement commitment and the effective investigation of criminal acts we are key contributors to maintaining a peaceful and orderly community that is consistent with the high quality of life in the town and community of Maggie Valley. The department is committed to these goals and working closely with the community to accomplish them.
The Chief of Police – Commanding Officer of the department – is appointed by the Board of Alderman that serves the town. The Chief is responsible for every aspect of the department’s management that results in an efficient and effective crime-fighting agency. The Chief is also responsible for coordinating relations between the department and the citizens, the residents, tourists, business owners that it serves and other state, local and federal agencies.
Under the office of the Chief are the Captain, Detective, Patrol Officers, Traffic Officer and ABC Officer. These personnel are responsible for ensuring the efficient use of department resources and for advancing the mission of the Maggie Valley Police Department and the goals and directives of the Chief.
This site is designed to provide you, our citizens, residents, tourists and business owners with insight into our workplace and to new and ongoing programs that have been instituted to strengthen the Department’s crime-fighting infrastructure and to work closely with the citizens and residents to keep our community a safe place to live, work and visit. With that I welcome you to our beautiful town and hope you will pay us a visit, stay a while and relax in this peaceful setting in these wonderful Blue Ridge Mountains! If you have any questions after visiting our website, please do not hesitate to contact us. As always, if you need immediate police services dial 911; for non-emergency situations call 828-926-0867 or local dispatch at 828-452-6666.
